You can also use a transparent furniture varnish when the wood starts to lose its shine. Don't forget to protect your surfaces from undercuts, candlesticks or any decorative objects that could cause permanent stains and scratches on the varnished surface. If you spill liquid, such as water, on your furniture, wipe it up immediately to prevent the wood from getting soaked.
